What is the current recommended flag signal for race cancellation?

Looking at older rules books, it shows N over first substitute as the race cancellation flag signal, but there does not seem to be a cancellation signal in the new rules. There are flags for Postponement and Abandonment, but if the race has not started, then what is used?

Or does the N over First substitute still apply?

Not quite sure what you mean by the difference between cancelation and abandonment but according the the latest noble marine sticker ive just dragged up from my drawer..

All started races abandoned (return to starting area):    N
All races abandoned (further signals ashore):   N H
All races abandoned (no more racing today):   N A

I guess its the interpritation of abandoned and cancelled

For example, on a day with a number of races, one or two are sailed, the weather gets up and you then decide to abandon, N over A, meaning all abandoned, no more racing today.

However, if you did not even get started, arrived at the club house, wind howling and a big sea and you wanted to flag total cancellation, you used to fly N over first substitute. All racing cancelled.

I guess they are pretty similar and the message will be understood, but what is the official approach, or does N over A cover it all?

Me - I'm going to get an N flag of my own to fly on the boat - you know how it always drops/gets up as required immediately after the RO cans it for the day!

There is no provision in the RRS for cancelling a race, so there is no need for a signal flag!

Races may be abandoned after the start. An abandoned race is void but may be resailed.

This is why if, for example, Race 3 of a series is abandoned, the next start is the start of Race 3.

In the same way a Protest Committee may decalere a race void, in which case it is abandoned and may be re-sailed.

Anyway, you'd double the weight of the Moth putting a sticker on it!
