yeh my crew hurt me quite bad. we had a fully battened main and a very light wind day. when we tacked the battens didnt pop so with him telling me he grabed the boom and pulled it as hard as he could, and my head connected with the boom quite nicely ive never let him live it down

Had that one happen to me, nowadays coming out of tacks in light airs, I'll stamp on the wing when just crossed to pop the battens, works a treat.

My crew used to beat me with the jib stick when I started getting too grumpy in competitive situations.
I sail a singlehander now as I used to respond by dropping the mainsheet when her head was near the kicker...

This is an old classic! The other is the crew elbowing the helm doing the spin hoist
Helms this is how you get your own back (some may only apply to skiffs):
1. When you pitchpole be sure to use the crew as a cushion by sandwiching them between you and the mast. Much less painful this way.
2. and my fave, when you are both sitting in, in light winds pull the trapeze towards you, aim at the back of the unsuspecting crew's head and release! The effect is immediate.
3. Not really painful, but abuse the crew for a slow hoist while standing on the spin halyard on the cockpit floor.

No, but I hurt the crew often....... But he is a good sport and takes it.
We have had his fingerst down to flesh towards the end of regattas and put them back together with electrical tape, put the goves over the top and he is right to hoist the kite again
After the invention of Bow Sprits (no more spinnaker poles in the head), the skipper can feel pretty safe at the back of the boat now.

My crew nearly broke my nose at an open meeting at bala, and had the cheek to tell me off for sailing past the mark!!
The fact i was laid out in the back of the (recently purchased) boat clearly didn't matter.

If you only get to the mast your not doing it right
As for standing on the halyard, it sounds like a poor setup

The 29er, RS800 and some 14's all the halyard run back to a block on shock cord attached to the back of the boat, it's easy to do in each of them

The best I heard of was a dutch FD pair who did the Bandol 49er worlds as their 1st sail in a assymetric boat.
The 1st tack off the start line that they survived, the helm (unused to trapezing and helming) unclipped in such a way as to re-clip the crew onto the aft trapeze wire.
The crew was surprised on reaching the middle of the boat (under the boom) to discover that he was now reclipped - having just unclipped.
As the boat capsized, the helm fell back onto the mainsail, landing on top of his crew who was still trying to unclip, on the other side of the mainsail.
As the crew finally managed to unclip, the trapeze ring popped up and hit him on the nose. Ow....
They both came out laughing, but I guess that is just 49er sailing...!

If you are in a sindle trap boat and want to get you own back....
Just drop your trailing foot in to the drink the shoot of ice cold water gets the helm straight in the face.
He did try beating me with the tiller one day so I kicked him out the boat (literally) he never did it again .

If you have a self retriving kite pole and you time it right you can catch the helm right in the middle of the forehead. If the elastic it tight enough it all happens a bit quick for them to see it coming.
Of course they can teabag you, but there are things you can do in revenge for that as well.

good one i do it to fly my crew on the wire over tenders on morings. and drop them in by "accadently" dropping the maisheet always a fun one. o the good old tiller extension is good. as i sail a twin string it is easy to bash the crew.
shame is with my crew he used to give all that he took so i would get very wet on the wire or suddenly find my trap ajuster drop upwind. all good fun.

my personal fave to get the crew is to push 1 of his feet off the gunwhale when he isnt looking, or just push him forwards so he loses footing and ends up stumbling and falling round to the bow - Very entertaining! and as was earlier mentioned; it is very easy to add a little bit more halyard friction for the crew in the 29er!

Best one is to set the kite up wrong, go for a pre-race launch and send the crew up the front to sort it. They really love you for it!

Lesson to be learnt, never let a helm near the pointy end of a boat! Just thought of duck taping the kite sheets to the front of the boat!

One way of getting your helm back on a 14 is to accidently sheet out on
the main when they are about to hook on ha ha ha just remember to swing
in before they fall in backwards let go of the trap handle and go
swimming!

the feva is a great boat to send the crew to sort out the kite in because it is incredibly unstable with the bows down. there is nothing better than watching your crew swimming to the kite halyard while your nice and dry on the dagger board

getting on the fordeck of a merlin in waves and breeze is pretty chuffing wobbly. had to do it a hamble warming pan, luckily we were reaching into the estuary so the wave could have been worse. kept it upright tho, thank gawd, it was plenty cold without a swim!
my helm has squirted juice at me on countless occations, which is abit cheeky when he expects me to still be able to fly the kite with juice in my eye!

ok this isnt deliberate but its a great way to anoy the crew: have your toestrap break on the last beat. providing its warm i think it would be okay. i have done this once infront of the clubhouse and twice in the last 2 weeks. it was cold. time for new toestraps, sewing them up just isnt the same .

My old 12 helm got us to the first mark in the warming pan 2nd, just behind the then nat champ. He was so excited he fell out of the boat backwards, but held onto the mainsheet to make sure I went in too! Git.

i have always clung onto the mainsheet when the toestraps break in the feva because the tiller extension bends and never bends back. its not just to anoy my crew honest .

if craig was the guy with the camera in the rib at that overcrowed windward mark and chaotic gybe mark i think i was either telling him very loudly that it wasnt our fault and i nearly middle fingered him at the gybe mark. NEARLY. i had a very bad race and was slightly stressed the last thing i needed was a bloke with a camera filming us and telling us we'd got it wrong.
