All,
The hitch on my road base has completly seized up over winter to the point that once I had got it on the car I almost couldnt get it off. Can someone advise me of the best place to buy a new hitch?

From the makers of your trailer would be the best bet, but will WD40 solve the problem? I'm sure there was a thread on WD40, once?

Any good towbar fitter will be able to sell you a hitch. If they can't then they will know someone who can (where are you?)there is a trailor manufacturer in Huntingdon and my village that I could pm their numbers to you,but i don't know if they do mail order.

Broken things always fall into 3 catagories:
WD40 type.
Ductape type.
Hammer type.
If all the above fail: It aint worth fixing.

depending on where you are...use the yellow pages or..
www.towsure.co.uk
If you are near Cambridge there are q few I could recommend but if not then use the above. Most of them are generic just make sure you get the right size hitch for the ball you have on your motor.

indespension is a chain of trailer makers and parts sellers, cheap but quality products. we bought all of the stuff my bro needed for his GCSE tech project there and it was all very reasonable.(he built a trailer to carry a 185cc go cart)

Actually WD40 isn't that great at seized things. A good penetrating oil is much better. Even straight auto diesel is better than WD40.

Have you tried soking it in Coca Cola? No jokes!! Thats the way my great uncles un seize tractor engines . You may need to let it soak i.e. cover it with coke for a length of time.

You havn't been greasing your balls. Use WD to shift some rust, but you must give it as good going over with wire wool. Then Grease liberally with the regular autogrease you put on your trailers bearings and other moving bit. Buying a new couple is a waste of money, as is not looking after it by not greasing.

Be careful, boys... remember that some of our younger members can be easy to influence... One signature says "The voices made me say it". How will you justify Rob.e's house and most of his neighbourhood gone to flames, with Rob standing in the middle of the rubble, clutching his singed, half-finished Spanish coursework and muttering insanely under his breath : "Y&Yers made me do it!" ??? Hm? Think consequences....
Besides, as a girl, I can tell you that hairspray is the best (but don't tell my kids )

BNS I can't thank you enough! "Younger members" Ooooh! I'm so happy. It's actually not too long since I did my Spanish "A" level, but I left school long before course work was invented....
I can't find a geriatric emoticon, but surely you've noticed I sail a Solo , that must say it all!
Any road up, you've made up my mind, I'm changing my sig....

MYTH: This myth has been busted by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman on Discovery Channel's - Mythbusters | I did put apparently, just one of those things people might say to illustrate what a horrible nasty drink coke truley is. I have, however used it succesfully to un seize a set of pliars by soaking it in coke overnight. They now work as well as you would want pliars to work. (They open and shut and everything.) And I don't work in a environmnt where the coca cola company would have a vested interest in stoping me saying that coke is very useful as drain cleaner. I trust what I see with my own eyes more than what I might see on someones selected veiw of it on a tv screen.
