Hi, as I understand it they should just peel off. Is there anything particular that I should use to remove the glue residue? I don't want to cause any damage..

Sticky stuff remover (Naptha or lighter fluid) will do it, Toluene (evostick remover) or acetone is quicker, some say they may damage polyester (PET) sailcloth but this website says it has little or no effect on polyester film (Mylar). Might be more careful with woven sailcloth though.

I found all above took ages and give you major headaches, I just used thinners, was really fast and headaches not so bad.

I've tried celly thinners too, I don't remember it being more effective than Acetone or Toluene but I wasn't comparing just using what I had to hand.

I had a series of photos on photo bucket showing the different solvent disolvers, most of the propriety products just turned adhesive into little balls that were even harder to shift, but the gun wash melted adhesive and drew it into rubbing cloth.
