Hi all. I am about to graduate from university and am looking into getting back onto the water after three years out. I'm 5'4", but a stocky, rugby-playing 70kg. There's a decent Laser fleet at my club so my first thought was to grab a white bathtub with a Radial rig; but is there anything more interesting any of you could suggest? I haven't thought much about budget, probably not more than a couple of grand (looking for a club racer, not a championship-winning boat). I have zero experience trapezing, but wouldn't be afraid to try. I sail off the Essex coast, so would prefer something robust and stable. Thank you in advance  |

I know the Solution well; we had a strong fleet at our club and have hosted the Nationals a few times. Really lovely boat but probably out of my price range, on the rare occasion that they crop up
Definitely will be considering the Europe, strong background in womens' sailing and would be within budget, thanks for that |

I'm 5'7" and 76kg (and 65 years old so not so bendy as I was), I considered a Europe for my home pond having sailed an OK in my youth. Got a go in one and it is a lovely boat to sail but I decided it was just a little too small. At that weight, radial/full rig (if fit and inland), europe, streaker, solution, aero, d-zero. Prices rising in that order. If you like fleet racing then get what the local fleet is sailing, but remember, all of the above are not that far off in handicap so depends how the racing is organised as to how good the race is. i.e. separate starts or all in. As always, try as many as possible, most of the above class associations will likely go to a fair bit of effort to find a boat for you to try.
