Hi,

What happens if you keep a Stratos on a mooring with no cover? Do they fill up between the cockpit and the hull when it rains?

No: it's a self-draining cockpit but keep the hatches in!

Not sure about fresh water but of you leave it on a sea mooring for more than a couple of weeks you will get a lot of stuff growing on the bottom.

My club leaves a few of the larger training boats like the Stratos, Laser 16 etc on a mooring on our lake for most of the season. March to October ish. No real issues, they'll need bailing out and the bird crap cleaning off from time to time, but it's a lot less faff than launching and recovering such heavy dinghies for each training session.

I have my Stratos already for years in the water. Along a pontoon not on a mooring. You need to put antifouling on the bottom. After a primer and the rest...

Do check your insurance policy!
Mine specifically prohibits mooring afloat. I'm sure that is negotiable, but it's a standard exclusion in my experience.

Thanks for the replies, from what I can understand the boat is not actually self draining on a mooring and so will fill up between the cockpit and the hull.

If this is so then I won't be buying one as it has to go on a mooring.

How would you get the water out from between the hulls?

I'm not sure why she would fill up, but a small electric bilge pump with a solar panel could be a way to keep her drained if that is the case.

The boat wont fill up, I don't have a cover over it and no problems. I don't see the difference between a mooring or alongside a pontoon. Don't worry.

If the boat filled up with water between the cockpit and hull on a mooring it would certainly do so in a capsize but it doesn't do that either. And yes, the cockpit IS self draining, after a capsize, if you ship a wave or if you just leave it on a mooring.
