Oh dear is that my boat? I couldn't get down there yesterday the road was blocked with fallen trees and God knows what else, it was exactly my intention to tie that thing down as the windsurfers the night before said they might be having a good day sunday, can't say we got much warning for exactly how windy that became. Our power was out all day and the road closed.
Somebody might have phoned or texted, isn't that what belonging to clubs means?

Was the photo taken by a club member ?
Surely the first thing a reasonable club mate would do would be to contact the owner (even just to say that they had put the boat back on its trolley etc) - not post some daft photo ?

Might want to take a view on putting boats back on their trollies as I'm fairly certain a member at our club made a claim against the club some years back on the basis that the boat was damaged putting it back on the trailer. I think policy is now, boats are left untouched and owners contacted.

Particularly if it's sat fairly happily on the grass. If it's rolling about on gravel on concrete, it would be best to put it back on the trolley. It is unfortunate that so many clubs still don't have adequate provision for tying boats down. Most insurance policies insist on this, but how many of us don't or can't comply?

You mean apart from the forecasts from Wednesday onwards for a storm overnight on Saturday?

Yes grf was your boat. Luckily a couple of council workers were on hand to help, they are used to things blowing down and we got it chopped into nice sized logs ready for the bonfire. Hang on its plastic that's right it's back on its trolley and tied down. To the ground.
For everyone else all members were notified through our Facebook page that boats were safe and righted and tied down.
P.s. in recent weeks this has been the natural position of grf's boat on the water

Re. insurance & tie downs, this has been discussed on here before but some clubs are restricted by landlords T&C's which do not permit any fixings into their Tarmac/concrete etc.

I know they will have done the right thing, I'm just winding them back up, they're good folk down that club and in truth I am a bit of a liability, we don't have to tie boats down at Hythe, so I've never really got into the habit.
I have however managed to get it into a couple of third places this winter series, until I got trussed back up into the dry suit and last time i used it, I bust the tiller extension so had to pack it up and leave early to rig about trying to find another, silly me, it should have been tied down, it usually is tied down, I've got bits of rope and there are things to tie it to, just didn't what with all the fuss with the busted rear end.

Other places, boats don't always get permanent parking bays, so need to be movable. Tying the boat down to the trolley helps a lot, and it has to be pretty windy to blow a boat over if it's tied down to a road base.

Both my current inland clubs have chains to tie the boats too, and back in the day (50 years ago) we had stakes into the ground. I do tie my boats down when they are next to the caravan (to spiral ground anchors), it would be foolish not to on a headland overlooking Holyhead bay.......
Hope your boat's ok GRF

we are relatively lucky at our club , you would never consider not tying down , so you dont get caught out .
But concrete blocks have pulled out , ropes snapped !
Even had a mast taken out by flying barrel off beach , unfortunately tie down was round mast , once broken allowed boat to flip onto adjacent boat and write it off ( mine too !), then take off , fly over fence and land middle of road , written off too ,
Sometimes you cant win .
Was a tad windy !!!

Well they have moved the boat to a slightly more sheltered position down at the back of the boat park about as far from the water as you can be, where I was before and someone who I shall buy a beer next time we meet has tied it down securely. The problem was the position it was in doesn't have a tie down on the starboard side anyway, so I've now found a concrete millstone and rolled it into place I guess I shall have to bury it underground to really secure it. This spot is closer to the water but in a bit more of an exposed position, so I'm not sure what I'll do just yet, I'd also like to nettle proof the berth, nothing more annoying than getting nettle stings on bare feet and legs, think I might try and get some of that astroturf stuff and lay that in when I dig in the wieght.

Graham
Dig a hole, put a short lenght of chain in the middle and fill with post mix.
Or you could do the above and add the stone you have at the bottom for extra weight.
Its always the boat next door that isnt tied down that does the damage.
After the 87 gale did have to help a mate retrieve his Tornado from up a tree complete with tye down weight etc but he did have the tramp still in.

Couldn't you tie it down to a GP14 or something. That should stop it moving.
