ESTIMATING TIME & MONEY TO BUILD A BOAT

Construction of the first 50% of a home-built boat takes 90% of the initially estimated time and budget.

The next 40% of the construction takes 90% of the initially estimated time and budget.

The final 10% of the construction takes the remaining 90% of the time and budget.

To Summarize: 50% + 40% + 10% = 270%

Sounds a little on the optimistic side!

There's altogether too much truth in that.

Then add in "changes" after first sail.

Having just built a boat from scratch, that seems about right... I turned two sheets of 6mm marine ply (cost about 55 quid) into a usable boat, for a total cost of about £400.... And it took me about 10 weeks of evening work... not the three weeks I'd anticipated...

But who cares?  I made it.. it's fun to sail... it raises a laugh in other people.. mission accomplished...
