BBC report of power station chimneys being demolished...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-34368781

caption on video:
"It took just a few seconds for the huge chimneys to come crashing to the ground"

Hey, how about that, and I was expecting them to stay suspended in the air for minutes after the charges went off...

Jim, with this post and your other ones on the noble thread are you sure you haven't been hacked by a certain forum member who very occasionally sails at a large sailing club in the Midlands.

Can't be me you cads are referring to... Been to our sailing club about 14 times in the past couple of months - initially preparing and practicing for 'the Nationals' at the beginning of September... devastatingly effective given the light winds we got:

Subsequently been working on speed runs ... Smashed 25 knots the other week too, but that's still very much lame duck territory.

Probably wondering what windsurfing has to do with going Dinghy sailing?

Well in fairness to Jim I don't imagine he holds those traditional stereotypes and superiority complexes over various forms and disciplines of sailing- it certainly wouldn't fit with his own eclectic (and imho very nice) choice in boats.

sadly I was planning on going to the sailing club tomorrow, but the forecast is crap... so I guess JimC has a point.  :-(

Luckily, I have a boat to finish mending tomorrow, and a hedge to cut! The level 2 course I was going to be teaching has been cancelled, and given the forecast, I'm not too sad. Sunday looks a little better.

30 miles in the saddle instead today... I thought about looping around the sailing club 10 times to make a point, but it seemed rather pointless when the roads are so nice around here.

Sounds like hard work to me, would rather be drifting. And not in the car going round corners way, though that too, thinking about it.

well I'm not going to pretend it's my favourite sporting pursuit, nor that I represent a very good example of a cyclist; but it sure as hell beats running and it's an utterly hassle free experience as it's 'shed-to-shed' with no added driving and faffing time.

Certainly beats sweating on a static bike in the gym, too.

true - but it's not that cold yet, and at least a static bike at the gym has ledge to pop an iPad with some decent downloads on it....

back at the club yesterday... no dinghies out, but at least 10 windsurfers- not that it makes a difference- it's all sailing isn't it Rupert?

It's definitely autumnal out there, I was in a full winter wetsuit (the new O'Neill Psycofreak 5mm) I could really recommend it, nice fit and super flexible.

Anyway, that's my last trip to the club this month- off to California for 2 weeks windsurfing and paddleboarding next week... I doubt I'll sail everyday though, even though the AirBNB is bang on the beach, so I guess Jim still has a point....

Just read this and I don't know why but for some daft reason I assumed you were atop a horse.

well I own two...  or more correctly put, my wife owns one and my daughter owns one.  I rode the bigger one once, to prove I could at least sit atop the stupid beast... hated it, but put on a faux smile for the benefit of family harmony.

The only good reason for owning a nag that I can see is it a good defence when questioned about the amount you spend on you boats/kit. God those creatures are expensive to maintain, as well as being highly dangerous.

Unless discussing it with you or grumph, then yes.
