Anyone got any tips on racing a laser 2000, any go faster advice relivant to the boat, by that i mean not the usual standard stuff that applies to everything like easing controls off wind etc, but stuff specific to the boat? i know the RS 200 fairly well and it has its own "quirks" so do most boats, i just want to know about the 2000. Anyone out there had any expereince on what makes em tick as such?

I took a borrowed one to an open over the summer and they are pretty
moderate boats really. I found it was beter to lead the kite halyard
back to the helm and after a couple of problems on the drops after the
halyard re-cleated halfway down I put a plastic ring around the
halyard, just behind the block with some shockcord up to the gooseneck.
Apparently its class legal and if you get the shockcord length right it
will hold the halyard above the cleat during drops, but wont affect it
when you do want it cleated. The only other thing that comes to mind is when you capsize, get someone on the board sharpish because they tend to turtle surprisingly quickly. If its not too blowy you can hapily right it with the kite still up too ------------- |

Chris, if you go to the forum at http://www.laser2000.lasersailing.com - www.laser2000.lasersailing.com there's a Tech and Trim forum ... but you have to be a CA member to access it (£15 a year). The class magazine also has regular features on set-up, but from what I've seen the boat isn't particularly sensitive to tweeking and the best in fleet seem to stick with a fairly standard set of rig settings. its definatley quicker to not furl the jib unless its a really loose reach with hardly any wind ------------- |
