Has anyone seen the review of xenon in Y&Y, sailed one, taken one home from the boat show , have any decent photos you could pass on.

Also has anyone got any views on the xenon, looking to spend some pennys

also looking at Laser2000  and some RS boats

Saw the review, sailed one at Datchett, thought it was a great boat, ordered one, and awaiting it's delivery in two weeks - can't wait!
Have sailed the other two and thought the L2K a little tame (Xenon has 30% more sail area) and hate the Vision - had bad experiences with fittings pulling out of under-engineered sections.

Here is an excellent forum dedicated to the Xenon with some piccies: http://www.andrewcoombes.name/sailing/ - http://www.andrewcoombes.name/sailing/

We saw the Xenon at the London Boat Show and took delivery in June, replacing our old Kestrel.

We are very pleased so far,  the assymetric is just so much easier to get on with than the symetric spinnaker.

The Xenon seems reasonably stable and our 9 year old thinks it makes a fantastic family boat, (he didn't like the Kestrel -it was set up for racing, and a bit congested with three in it) whilst we find it good to race in the club handicap races (sailing of PW1035).  Its taken us a while to get the hang of role tacking it effectively, but we are getting there now.

It doesn't seem as quick as the Kestrel in very light stuff, but when we get a bit of wind we quickly catch up.

All in all it has been a good purchase for us, but we are hoping that there might be some open meetings next year so we can sail against and meet other Xenon owners.

2 positive reviews in a row of a plastic boat on the Y&Y forum...wonders will never cease! Maybe Topper have done a decent boat?

Saw it at the dinghy show, delivery in June, loved every minute in it since.  Very responsive, lots of room, nice and stable.
So good I started a forum (see Marine Boy's post above).
Certainly echo Martin's wish for an open meeting, be a blast.

Check out the other threads on this forum on this subject.

I'm also trying to choose between L2000, Vision and Xenon

Any feedback appreciated.

Check the Daily Sail out for another review I like the comment it looks like an RS400 with national 12 sails!

http://www.thedailysail.com - www.thedailysail.com .  Subscription-only sailing news website.  Don't know if I should mention it here

The man from Topper he say "the bigger you go with the plastic boats the lighter they get proportionally to glass boats, so this hull is now 118kg"   Shurely shome mishtake, or if not mishtake contradiction...  Apparently the GRP prototype weighed 25kg more than that - about the same as a 1970s GP14!  Plus ca change...

Umm, £25 for a website? Is it worth it? What do they say about the Xenon?
Do they like it?

Apart from the fact that the Xenon has 95% of the sail area of an RS400 and three times that of a N12 it's a spitting image...
Can't wait to try hiding it in a N12 race

Pay your £25 and you will find out - I think the Daily Sail is worth £25 / year and complements this site well.

£25 quid for one report I don;tthink so (SORRY) think I will wait and hope to get some feed back from the Endeavour guys

Topper seem not to be advertisiing the boat over much, try and find any photo's as rare as rocking horse!

Not worth the money. I've had a look and the report is poor and
inconclusive. The boat was only tested in very light winds, which can't give a
full picture of its capabilities.

Umm, this morning I'd decided a Vision was the boat for me. After reading
about the Xenon again, I feel I'm swaying towards one of those once more...

Reading the daily sail I really like the comment "...

"There is no doubt that the Xenon is not really a boat designed for out and out racers ..."

Good choice for the endeavour then!

I see where they got the national 12 comment from, the main is quite a similar shapeI guess, but it would dwarf a 12 completely...

You are assuming of course, that the guy who ran the review is an authority on out and out racers not just an amazing judge of scale...

The Enterprise did well enough as the Endevour boat, and that wasn't an out and out racer either. The point is to have a boat which people from classes as far apart as Toppers and 49ers can jump into with minimal practice and race on as even a playing field as possible. An out and out racer (such as the 400) isn't going to achieve this. So yes, good choice for the Endevour, without the sarcasm!

There is 1 (maybe 2) at Scaling Dam and they do indeed look a bit RS400y and the sail plan looks a little 12y (if you squint) because it's so high aspect. It seems to go fairly well but there is definitely a washing-up bowlness about the material it's moulded in.

Scaling seems to embrace change (despite being a little isolated) and there are several 'plastic' boats to be seen.

You're joking right? no-one sails Enterprises 'for fun' do they? I thought the only reason the class survives at all is because they're fun to race and theres lots of them.
