Smaller rig, aimed at much younger sailors. The url was www.zzapboat.com, but no longer exists and the domain expired last March. Think its nailed to its perch.

And it never had much of a skiff in it, did it? Skiffs have big rigs, lots of righting moment, maybe some link to the classic skiff classes.......the Zap is just an assymetric dinghy like the good old JD.

We had a demonstration of them locally a few years back. They were being marketed at kids moving up from opi's into trapeze boats, like a stepping stone to the 29er. The problem was that a lot of the kids were more willing to go straight into the 29er or 420 and being highly skilled racing wise and having a lot of awareness, weren't finding the transition too hard. Remember at the time hearing that the boat was quite successful in Ireland, but didn't hear of them after that. Does anybody know what happened to the Nautivela Jet, or was it just produced as a prototype boat to compete for the Olympic place the 49er got?

I still wonder whether it's good for the sport to hold kids in Optis until they are big enough and good enough to go straight into a 29er or 420. OK, they may be demon racers but aren't many of them bored to tears by the Opti by then? The Zzap DID seem a bit too close in size to the 29er/420 though. And as for calling it a skiff.........

Then again, if that's the way it's done in Britian it seems to work, you're undeniably the top dinghy country.
