The great thing about the Finn is that it's easy to sail but hard to sail well with many sub 80 Kgs sailors racing competitively albeit not at Olympic level.

I've got a son (13 years old, 6ft 1, currently 76Kg and still growing) who has moved into Radials this year, who is fully aware (and thoroughly excited by the idea) that his future may lie in Finns eventually.  Any chance of him having a go some time please?

not just a four year itch, usually a four monthly itch, sometimes a four weekly itch! i've had a finn-crush for about 10 years now, there's been several instances where i've been close to making the jump. it suits my style i think. they're such classically elegant boats upwind and the pumping rule has made it a dynamic and physical boat downwind (just don't try that in a club race...!). We don't really have a fleet at HISC but i'd just keep the boat there then join the racing at Mengeham where they regularly get 10 boats out.  if i wasn't about to buy a cripplingly expensive house then i'd be really tempted to get one, i just can't run to the slightly high entry price just now.*sigh*

Andrew, If I manage to escape to Fed Week and you are there you can go for a spin in my boat.  My sail number is GBR 53.

Just bought one to see if they are as good as I'd always thought.

They are amazing - so powerful, technical, beautifully built and everything works properly.

Despite the fact that they demand an awful lot of work to obtain moderate speeds they do feel quick.

A proper work out - even in modertae winds.

Everyone should try one

What's all this about not pumping in club races, I did it so much I dislocated my shoulder and damaged my rotator cuff a few years back, it was a tight club race, and missed the Nationals! Not sure how much sympathy I got? Hopefully my technique has improved?
Finn GBR16 Thunder Road.
