   cheers! like the toe strap arrangement, very clean but looks functional too, as the review says, the symetric kite helps with a shorter 'sock' which keeps a deal of clutter out of the cockpit, particularly the crew area

	I had a great time letting people test the X1 when we visited the very friendly and enthusiastic Haversham S.C. in April. This is just the morning before the memory card ran out I happen to be out in all of these, but in the afternoon I was mainly watching from the bank. Some very able sailors of all ages 11 (good helm!) and up had a go. Despite the very strong gusts everybody I sailed with stayed dry, even the very nice lady serving (excellent!) cakes who theatened to claim a bottle of vodka if I got her wet!

	Chris, Thank you very much for letting me have a sail in your X1 before yesterday's Glyn Charles Race. Although the sail was necessarily brief, I got the feel of it pretty quickly (quite different from my Wayfarer) she tacks beautifully, points high, sheet loads are light and gosh she is fast too. Good luck with the project, it would be nice to see fleets develop. John

	John, You are welcome. The race later on was excellent fun and it was great to check out new sailing territory for us in beautiful Chichester Harbour. The broad reach from Sandy Point eastwards was especially memorable. I think righting moment was all good in this race - in our boat we certainly needed a lot more of it, and in retrospect of course these were exactly the conditions that at a rather light 135kg we should have taken a third person. You would have done much better though! We are still learning with the X1, especially in terms of exploring how rig rake, simply by lowering shrouds on the verniers, can help with depowering and therefore extend the range of the large main upwards for any crew. And clearly everyone is still grappling with what the boat's handicap should be. It's still our view that an overall PY should turn out at around 960 (slightly higher than a 400, given it has less beam but a bit more sail area) before local adjustments are made, but we quite understand as an unknown quantity that HISC along with QM are going under than over. Although, this of course does not go anywhere near explaining the results due principally to, er, 'sub-optimal' sailing by us! A great day out, though, and many thanks to Mark and everyone at HISC for a very enjoyable event. Chris

	A great weekend of extremes. Saturday at Bourne End Week: Close racing against Doug & Louise (Int 14 friends) followed by great UTSC hospitality and watching"A" raters capsizing in big gusts. Sunday: Very! windy at Notts. County S.C. regatta - Everybody, including us was astonished by our epic white sail reaches. Moderate success in the morning despite not being our conditions at all (mainly buy keeping upright!). The afternoon had the better of us with several capsizes - I think everybody went over at some point - even the marquee roof blew off! Monday: Wet and no wind at Nottingham S.C. on the Trent. Ideal for the X1! Good racing with several members having a go at beating us round the course - Jolly nearly did too! It certainly showed how much fun it can be in almost no wind in an X1.

	Just popping up to Norfolk for the Three Rivers Race from Horning S.C. Looks a bit breezier than last year and they have given us a handicap making us faster than the Norfolk Punts!! So wish us luck!!

	I will be surprised if you are faster than a punt. That handicap seems a little mean to me!! Still, it is a great race, I've never done it in a dinghy, always went for the civilized option, on a Broads River Cruiser!! Good Luck, and enjoy!!! Jon

	Definitely a mean handicap! It was a fantastic race with a lot of hairy moments for all Only 2 Thames "A" raters finished. Most dinghies capsized - the lead boat 3 times. Amazingly we didn't. We were Fourth home, behind three Norfolk Punts. Many records broken we managed the 50 miles in less than 8 hours! Lots of tales to tell, quite a biit of carnage and I am sure som amazing photos onfd Vodeo will appear on the net soon. Potter Heigham had lots of spectators - if you haven't seen this bridge do look it up - all the boats have to race under it (twice!).
