Maybe this helps http://www.sailracer.us/eventsites/content.asp?id=9631&eventid=51516
Of course not going sort of guarantees staying at 1026 - if you get a lot of Blazes turning up and the number is wrong you'll have some real data to press for a change for next year. Mark |

Mark - looks like only a few Blazes are likely to do the series, funny lot etc etc you might well think - whatever .... all they wanted was a bit of feedback... but they get their kicks as easy elsewhere as well. The decision is to still use the Draycote event to determine the Blaze 'Winter Champion' for this year at least - 2012 (extracted from with in the main event) and if somebody wants to run the numbers overall to prove whatever they are very welcome.
Without anyone declaring the applied criteria, method used , intent etc how on earth would anyone be that interested in 'pressing for a change' - life is far far to short. They, the Blaze fleet, will do doubt decide what they want to do next year at the October AGM next year. Happy Christmas ! ;-) Mike L. |

I've been drafting this reply for some time over the last couple of days, hence it's appearance this morning!
I won't be doing the GGP. I would normally, but i cannot see the point when - on the surface - it appears as though certain fleets are being artificially set up to do better. I've long been an advocate of adjusting PYs by increasing the yardstick of boats percieved to be slow but to do that and hammer the fast boats is ridiculous.
I'll get better, fairer racing at my club so that's where i'll be.
I was worried last year that by inventing this whole Sailjuice thing there was a danger that it could become too big, to the detriment of the individual events. This unfortunately appears to be coming to fruition. There is no overall prize for the GGP or the Steve Nicholson race, the fast and slow boats race separately. So what is the point of optimizing handicaps to suit slow boats that would be stuck in the mid fleet?
Of the five events there are only two that are vaguely similar (Tiger and dash) in terms of format, both of these vary pursuit and handicap which is great because it irons out unfairness in that fast boats sail clear from a mass start and sail in clear air. In a pursuit the fast boats have to sail through the fleet which negates that advantage overall. Not any more, as the fast boats get hit in the mass starts, and (Presumably) will also start later in the pursuits. Crazy.
I'm with the guy who wants to see the YR2 data if any exists. My feelings coud be misguided, but i've seen no evidence of this. If you know better than the RYA (The PY system has improved dramatically in the last 2 years, and is now where my club put things 6 years ago!) help us - and them - see where they are going wrong.
I'll be at the Bloody Mary and the Tiger as in those feets anything can happen. So see you there and have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Not the GGP, but I have a question about the Bloody Mary. The NoR states that a full body wetsuit or drysuit must be worn, and failure to comply will result in disqualification without hearing. Does a "full body wetsuit" mean full length arms? I only have a pair of long johns (full length legs) and don't want to find myself dsq over a technicality. |

It's common to most (all?) TW hosted clubs (and some other water companies)- it is a ridiculous rule that on strict application doesn't take account of modern layering systems or laser sailors who seem to relish having bare shins in icy conditions. I think officially the rule should have been in force at the Cherub/B14 inlands at the start of October, but no-one was complying and no-one was even attempting to enforce it, given the air temp was pushing 30 and the water was pretty bath-like. I think if a clipboard wielding TW official had turned up and attempted to enforce it there would have been a novelty windsock created from his skin. |

On a different subject, does anyone know what sort of courses are being sailed? I've had a look in the NOR and it doesn't seem to mention it.

On another subject, if anyone is looking for a crew, I haven't done this event but would like to take part if anyone needs a crew.

I've got space in the front of the 12 if you're feeling fit (Alan's away).

Bob, I am going to pass on that one, thanks for the offer. I am not that fit and would rather a hiking/ single trapeeze type boat.
Thanks anyway |
