Live on-line chat with world famous adventurers

teamphilips.com will host a live on-line chat with world famous adventurers when their new website is launched at 12pm GMT, 12 January 2000. Members of the public, schools and fellow adventurers are invited to log on and have a personal dialogue with these inspirational figures.
Some of the adventurers will be transmitting live from the Team Philips' Open Day at the free-entry interactive Visitors' Centre in Totnes, Devon, UK. The Open Day will feature exclusive tours of the revolutionary 120ft wave-piercing catamaran by the crew, as well as question and answer sessions. Competitions, a quiz and special shop promotions will also feature.
Team Philips aims to break the round the world Jules Verne record prior to competing in The RACE, the non-stop, no rules race around the world that starts at the stroke of midnight, 31 December, 2000 in Barcelona. She will be named by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in London on March 14th following her launch in Totnes on February 29th.
Among the inspirational adventurers will be:
- Pete Goss
Skipper of Team Philips; and crew members Andy Hindley, Mike Calvin, Graham Goff, Paul Larson and Alex Bennett. Pete Goss first captured the public imagination with his dramatic rescue of French sailor Raphael Dinelli from certain death in the South Ocean on Boxing Day 1996 during the single handed Vendée Globe non stop round the world yacht race.
He was welcomed back a hero by a crowd of over 150,000 and was awarded the Legion d’Honneur, France's greatest honour, by President Chirac.
- David Hempleman-Adams
David is a true adventurer and holds a whole raft of 'firsts' in the world of polar expeditions. Some include unsupported walks to the magnetic north and south poles, the north and south geomagnetic poles and climbing all seven continental summits.
- Brian Jones
Captain of the Brietling Orbiter, Brian is part of the only team to have circumnavigated the world in a hot air balloon.
- Mark Stubbs
An ex-Royal Marine Marine, Mark was the highest place British entry in Chay Blythe's Atlantic rowing challenge. He and his team are currently planning an attempt on the west to east Atlantic rowing record for 2001.
- Bernie Shrosbree
World Class athlete who set up and now runs the Benetton Human Performance Centre which specialises in training elite athletes. Bernie is a champion in many arenas; some of his achievements include winning at an international level in the Triathalon and 'Survival of the Fittest' competitions.
- Alan Chambers and Team Polar 2000
Including Jason Garland, Charlie Paton, Paul Jones , Ian Warwick and David Fox Captain of the four strong Royal Marine's Team, Polar Expedition 2000, Alan is planning the first British unassisted expedition to the geographical North Pole.
- Granny Barney (Caroline Norman)
Granny Barney, 60yrs, walked the entire coast of Cornwall in only 30 days, assisted only by her dog, Barney. In doing so, she raised money for Team Philips' and the galley has since been named 'Granny Barney's Galley'.

All of the Team Philips crew have been safely transfered to a German container vessel, the Hoechst Express in the mid-Atlantic after damage was sustained in severe gales.
Team Philips new crew member announced - 07 Dec 2000
Pete Goss, skipper of giant catamaran Team Philips, today announced Richard Tudor as the new member of his crew. The 41 year old professional sailor from North Wales is noted for his seamanship.
