Kircubbin Yacht Club on the eastern shores of strangford lough was the venue for round 2 of the champions of the lough, looking at the past winners of this event showed all host club boats being in the top 2 places each year, this said local knowledge of this notoriously tidal area was the order of the day.As the 5 min warning went there was an obvious air of confidence with local boats, as all 8 boats jockeyed for position on the line 5seconds to go nobody was shy of the line BANG everybody was away then the second bang who was over, as everybody looked at one another all the expressions said could not be me must have been you, then the hail 8867 the overall favorites and 8308 the local favorite for the day.

As these two went back the rest of the fleet screamed away on tight reach, the first mark was gybe mark then on to along run half way down this leg both Bad Company 8867 and Avalon 8308 were back in contention carving there way through the fleet, rounding the leeward mark Thingymajig and Intruder had 2 boat length lead from Napper then Bad Company then Adagietto.

Ten minutes into the mile and half beat and Bad Company using their newly acquired U/K McWilliams from Chris Ratsy (a former Sonata sailor) had roared through and was up with Thingymajig the leading boat, they did all they could to cover their position eventually giving way to the pressure. Bad Company won race 1 a three way dice between thingymajig, adagietto and intruder finishing in that order.

Race 2 got under way after lunch ashore, once again everybody was on the line but this time it was clean start, Intruder, Thingy majig and Bad Company disapeared from the rest of the fleet, having their own three way battle on a shorter course this time the win going to Thingymajig with intruder second and Bad Company third.

Going into the final race two points seperate the first three boats leaving it totaly open and once again the same three boats were doing battle of the line another reaching start and thingymajig had a big spinaker twist dropping well down the fleet leaving intruder just in front of bad company a major wind shift gave two fetches and a run to the finish making it a prosesion to the finish, intruder taking the gun bad company in second adagietto third napper fourth.

Overall Results:

PosBoat Name
1stBad Company
2ndIntruder
3rdThingymajig
4thAdagietto
5thNapper
6thAvalon
