August has been a busy month on YachtsandYachting.com. Rio 2016 has of course taken centre stage, but championship season means we have more reports than ever going onto the site. Thankfully it has also resulted in record traffic, beating our previous best by 8%! It does mean however that I've been very late in announcing June and July's Report of the Month sponsored by Henri Lloyd!
There was a definite West Country theme to our winners. In June it was Carl Tagoe's report of the Contender Open at Restronguet that was voted most popular. There are some 'interesting' abbreviations, acronyms and references to Greek gods in the text making it well worth a read whether you're interested in Contender sailing or not! As with all events from that part of the world, Cornish pasties are mentioned - I understand it's the law.
Our July winner is a Lymington sailor travelling for the first time to a very famous event in Devon. Karl Thorne's account of his maiden Salcombe Merlin Week proved to be one of the most read articles in a very busy month! Salcombe Merlin Week is capped at 120 boats (reached in 3 days after entry opened last year and more than enter the Nationals!) and sails in morning and afternoon fleets as only 60 boats can start in the estuary at one time. The description of the event being a 'family holiday interrupted by some very highly competitive racing' seems to sum it up nicely.
Both authors will be sent Henri Lloyd Dri-Pacs for their efforts. As well as writers winning prizes, all those who nominate winning reports are also in with a chance of winning a Henri Lloyd Dri-Pac. Our lucky winners in this draw are Bill Hooton, who after reading the Contender report has 'aspirations to join the Nob - Tag team', and Sheila Squire, who says the account of Salcombe Merlin Week 'hits the nail on the head'.
Keep nominating when you see a great report. We love recognising our contributors and maybe you can win a prize too!
