Island Sailing Club Evening Race Series - Day 11

28 June 2016
The forecast was for a SSW wind of 20 to 30 knots but this was not born out by conditions leading up to the start which consisted of light wind, heavy rain and poor visibility. Conditions cleared before the start and the wind started to increase so it was decided to go ahead with Flag Yankee displayed (life jackets shall be worn).
With an ebb tide running throughout, starting was to the East for all classes. The cruisers reached down to Norris before heading North across the main channel and up to the Bramble bank. Class 4 had a simple triangle back to the line via Gurnard Buoy whereas Classes 1 & 2 had zigzags of appropriate lengths on the way. The sea was rough in the wind-against-tide conditions and many boats retired.
The XODs decided not to show up but the Sonars and Flying Fifteens enjoyed a short 2 round course in the shelter of the Island with Prince Consort their most northern corner.
Visually the highlight of the evening was when six closely bunched Sonars were seen approaching the finish line with their scarlet club spinnakers in the evening sun.
