The weather report was not good saying there may be showers which could be heavy. They were and the wind had difficulty in making up its mind in what direction it was going to blow, a nightmare for the race officer. However, none of this diminished the enthusiasm of the youngsters.

When the wind finally settled so that they could have a upwind start rather than a reach, race one got underway. This race was reasonably incident free apart from some contestants wishing to get a head start by being over the line.

The difficulty with handicap racing is knowing what position you are actually in. This is where Optimists often do well as they tend to be sailing around not getting pushed out at the marks. Matthew Robertson sailing an Optimist won.

Race one
1st Matthew Robertson, Optimist
2nd Rhys Bamford, Laser
3rd Charlie Fensom, Optimist

Race two started and there were still problems with people being over the line and the indifferent wind causing some to get into irons just before the start - very annoying. There was something about the Toppers when it came to mark rounding; they were so competitive that they ended up rafting on the mark no one wanted to give way.

Race two
1st Trent Dahrkoop, Topper
2nd Oliver Mills, Topper
3rd Jack Burke, Topper

By race three started the sailors were getting pretty cold the rain had been falling like stair rods. The Optimists seemed to be doing a lot of bailing having scooped up water due to the waves. The toppers seemed to be inseparable with some very close racing between them. It was obvious by the way the Lasers were being sailed in testing conditions that they had been doing a lot of practice before hand, the pictures show just how well they were sailing.

Race three
1st Harry Cappleman, Laser
2nd Trent Dahrkoop, Topper
3rd Jenni Parsons, Laser radial

Overall Results:

1st Trent Dahrkoop, Topper 45402 (Beaver SC)
2nd Harry Cappleman, Laser 186080 (Pennine SC)
3rd Jenni Parsons, Laser radial 118156 (Rotherham SC)
