ARE YOU REGATTA READY?

The Regatta Season is here and no doubt your boat is race ready with a smooth finish and crisp sails, but are you? What do you need so that you are ready to compete and enjoy your event? Our Manager, Tom Stewart, the current National 12 National Champion, shares his top tips.

Waterproofs
We all hope our sailing will be of the sunny and glamorous variety, but this is the UK so sooner or later you will need waterproofs!
The Musto BR1 suit is ideal for day racers and coastal sailors.

Caps, Hats & Sunglasses
There’s nothing worse than getting a burnt face or squinting at the sun all day. I wear a cap and sunglasses to keep the UV at bay but I also pop a fleecy hat into my kit for chilly days and when sitting around between races.

Gloves & Boots

Help protect your hands and gain grip with a good pair of gloves. We have so many options available you're sure to find a pair that's right for you. No matter what type of sailing you do, a good pair of sailing shoes or boots are essential kit, both to protect feet and to give you better grip.

In Your Pocket
Every boat needs amazing amounts of PVC tape and skippers are always impressed by crewmen who brings their own! Leatherman tools are without doubt the best but any knife with a shackle key is of use and can also be considered part of your personal emergency kit. And don’t forget the sunscreen and lip salve.

Gadgets
Don’t go to sea without a handheld VHF. Not only are they the best safety tool but they are essential for course info at most yachting regattas. Give yourself the best start with the Velocitek PRO-Start. This stand-alone unit takes the guesswork out of the time and distance to the line. That just leaves you to choose the biased end!

Ashore Kit
If you are on shore party duty or racing isn’t your thing and you prefer to stay on shore and watch we have all the gear for you too.
