Try A Youth Boat Day at Grafham Water Sailing Club

by Iain Philpott 5 May 2016 18:32 BST 2 May 2016

What a great day at Grafham Water Sailing Club's 'Try a Youth Boat Day'. Set up for all those junior sailors looking to transition from the RYA Junior Classes across to the RYA Youth Classes, Spitfire, 29er, 420, Laser Standard, Laser Radial and the new World Sailing multihull the Nacra 15. Alex Philpott and Jess D'Arcy (Team Philpott-D'Arcy) were there providing taster sails on the Nacra 15. Will and Stewart Smith supplied and ran the Spitfire tasters. The Nacra 15 and full support was provided by Nacra dealer FLUID Boat Services. It was fantastic to see so many kids smiling from ear to ear after their multihull experience, many of them for the first time. A wide spectrum of ages including a very plucky 11 year old Oppie sailor who took to the trapeze, pardon the pun, like a duck to water! An outstanding performance by all.

Thanks to Peter Saxton, Stewart and Fiona Smith for the use of Grafham Water Sailing Club, Paul Wakelin Fluid Boat Services, Amy Harrison for her expert RIB driving, Will, Alex and Jess for all the sailor coaching on the multihulls plus all the volunteers who made the day go so well.

We can see this most definitely becoming the number one event in the UK for sailors looking to try out the youth boats to help them decide 'which one' and go on to transition from Junior to Youth sailing.

If you are looking to transition from a Junior programme to youth multihull sailing, or indeed just want to chat with someone about multihull please contact us either through the website or email Tim Johnson,
