Get Racing continues at Draycote Water Sailing Club

The second session of Get Racing at Draycote Water Sailing Club took place on Bank Holiday Sunday in chilly temperatures more akin to Easter than May but at least the sun shone at times. The participants enjoyed the breezy conditions and although the numbers were down, no doubt due to holidays, their enthusiasm over the hour long race more than made up for this.

Once again the Oppies showed their racing experience and enjoyed a close battle up the first beat, before Millie Irish pulled away from Derin Can Soyer to a clear lead, although he later reduced this. They did not have it all their own way, as once again Adrian Roberts, using one of the club's new Hartley 12's, sailed a good race to take first on the water and second place on handicap. Josh Davies had to overcome a late start and the odd capsize but showed good speed down wind to join in the mix of the racing.

The Get Racing sessions are run to encourage those new to racing to participate in club racing by giving them their own start and the assistance of a coach boat on the water. With the compact course it was not long before all the participants were racing amongst all the other fleets and all coped well with this which bodes well for them joining the normal fleet starts on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Once again, thanks must go to the ODs for their willing co-operation during the session.

The next session will run on the morning of the 5 June and all members who are new to racing are welcome to come along and join in. Contact Dave Rowe if you wish to hire club boats in order to participate at no charge.

Race results are as follows:-

1st Millie Irish, Optimist 4884
2nd Adrian Roberts, Hartley 12 1277
3rd Derin Can Soyer, Optimist 6206
4th Josh Davies, Laser 4.7 154702
DNC Ethan Cheshire, Laser 4.7 3
DNC Nigel & Aaron Davies, RS500 783
