The 2016 season opens with the Noble Marine Winter Championship at the beautiful location of Chew Valley on February 20th. Pete Mitchell took the title in 2015 in a light wind affair, pipping Andy Davis on count back from Olly Wells third.
The second event is the Spring Champs at Draycote Water on April 9, last year won by Andy Davis with Tom Lonsdale the surprise package, second from Charlie Cumbley. Draycote remains a hotbed of talent and the visitors will have their hands full with the likes of Nigel Davies, Chris Brown and Jon Clarke to deal with.
Event 3 is the Welsh Sea championship which will be sailed at Abersoch April 30-May 1. This is just around the corner from Pwllheli and racing will be great practice for the Nationals, sponsored by SUPERSPARS later in the season.
The fourth qualifier, the Scottish Championship will take place at St Mary's Loch May 21-22. Kevin Gibb will have another new boat, I predict a big season for Keith Milroy.
Event 5 is the Southern Area Champs, Bough Beech May 28. This Club has a fantastic fleet of National Solos', in number and in talent. Martin Frary will be defending the trophy he won in 2015.
The sixth qualifier is the Nigel Pusinelli Trophy, WPNSA June 18-19. Awesome venue, conditions and seafood restaurants. Won in 2015 by Andy Tunnicliffe.
Leigh and Lowton June 25-26 is the venue of the Northern Championship and event 7. Always a competitive affair and with each event averaging 50 entries in 2015, a big turnout is expected.
The eighth qualifier is the big one, the National Championship sponsored by SUPERSPARS, Pwllheli July 17-22. 6 days of gruelling competition, 6 race day sponsors (prize draws each day for those who enter before May 1) and a chance to win a new SUPERSPARS rig. Charlie Cumbley could be going for a fourth title on the bounce.
Event 9 and another massive turnout for the Inland Championship is on the cards. It is back to Rutland September 17-18 and Andy Davis will be defending his title. This venue has seen some epic races and worthy champions.
The final event is the EOS at Oxford October 29. With 4 qualifiers required to be in with a chance of winning a brand new North Sail, a big fleet and a winner is guaranteed.
Andy Davis is the current Super Series Champion, who will challenge in 2016?
