South East Enterprise 2015 Round-Up

by David Beaney 24 Nov 2015 19:14 GMT 24 November 2015

The South East series for the Enterprise Class covers 10 open meetings mainly near the M25 in West and South West London, but stretching down to Frensham Ponds in Surrey and Chipstead, near Sevenoaks in Kent.

This year we have lost two large reservoirs (Bewl and Weir Wood) from our circuit due to declining home fleets and poor turnouts.

As in previous years, open meeting turnouts are critically dependent on the size of the home club fleet on the day with on average 2 visitors per open meeting. This year the highest turnout was at Hampton with 13 boats comprising 4 visitors and 9 home club boats, closely followed by the final meeting of the season at Frensham, also with 9 home club boats but only 3 visitors. The area championships at Papercourt secured 4 visitors, but Chipstead did best in managing to attract 5 visiting boats. In total 60 different boats competed in at least one open meeting in 2015.

Long gone are the days when I first started Enterprise sailing in the Thames Valley in the late 1970's when we typically had open meeting turnouts of 40 boats – including large turnouts at some of the smaller river clubs necessitating us competing in flights.

The results for this year were as follows; in each of the aggregate series there is a B division champion as well as the overall winner to encourage those people who are not regular winners on the Enterprise circuit to compete.
