The first of the Ripon Sailing Clubs Trophy Days was held on Sunday 26th April. The sunshine & forecast of a strong breeze brought out a large fleet to compete in the Methuselah Trophy, Junior Cup and "Inbetweeners".
Despite the forecast, the first race was sailed in very light, changeable airs, which allowed four boats to break away from the main fleet and to comfortably maintain their position to the finish line. The promised strong breeze arrived during lunch time and led to much closer racing in the final two races as well as several capsizes as further entertainment to those on the shore.
Bernard Clark in his Solo, who was in the breakaway group in the first race, sailed consistently all day to take Podium in the Methuselah Trophy, followed by Peter Robinson in his Streaker. Jim Haddock fortified with his wife's sandwiches which were "prepared with love" took to the water in the afternoon and raced to overall equal second, with Tim Coleman, in the Grand Master section just behind Richard Brook who was the overall Grand Master.
The Inbetween Trophy was claimed by David Graham who won 2 of the 3 races in his laser followed by Graham & Alistair Lamond in their Albacore who won the final race.
Alastair & Charlotte Scott won the Junior Trophy in their RS200 winning two races, but they did not have it all their own way as Ellie Clark & Katie Scott beat them in the final race taking first place themselves.
With over thirty boats on the water the Trophy Season got off to a flying start, leaving club members looking forward to competing for more silverware during the year.
