All the Simons and Keiths

The weather turned decidedly colder this weekend; but anyone who imagined that sailing ended with the onslaught of autumn, would have been somewhat astonished to see around 20 boats competing in the Frostbite Series at Hollowell last Sunday.

Winds were light to moderate with gusts reaching around 20mph. Although damp for much of the day, the sun did shine through at one point.

If your name was Simon or Keith you had a pity good day, otherwise you wouldn't have featured on the podium. Likewise, if you had a Solo, Laser or Phantom, your chances were much improved.

The first race of the day saw Keith Runacre gain an early advantage in his Solo which he maintained throughout to take first place, ahead of Simon Cray in his Laser and Keith Lancaster in his Solo.

After lunch, Lancaster regained his form and secured first place in both the second and final races of the day. Meanwhile, Simon Bickers, in a Laser and Simon Deeks, in a Phantom enjoyed their own personal battle for second and third place – Bickers finishing ahead of Deeks in the second race, whilst the positions reversed in the final race.

Commenting after the day's racing Lancaster said, "It took me a while to wake up today, but I clearly recovered after lunch."

With just three days to go in this Series, Lancaster currently leads overall by a clear margin. The Frostbite Series continues this coming Sunday. It coincides with St. Andrew's Day, so may see activity from the Scottish members of the club.
