20-31 October 2014
Day two of the regatta was long. The start of racing was postponed due to a lack of wind. The Opti sailors took the time to play table football, meet each other, swap t-shirts, concentrate with their coaches and share time with the team.
At 1.30pm the signal to go to the water was up and everybody donned their lifejackets and went out. There was a light and regular breeze from North-North East.
Although there was a light breeze the Race Committee managed 2 races for each of the three groups. After the two qualifying races sailed in a 7 knots breeze at the Optimist World Championship, Nicolas Rolaz (SUI) has now posted a 2-4-3-5 to lead the 214-boat field. Tied for second are Mara Turin (SLO) and German Valentin Muller. It was a difficult day because there was lot of current, more than yesterday, and the wind was difficult to read.
The schedule calls for a 6 race qualifying series, after which the sailors will then be divided into gold, silver and bronze fleets. Sailors in gold fleet will sail for the World Champion title. The weather forecast for Friday is 8 to 10 knots from the East. In Buenos Aires there is a very popular sailing phrase "East wind brings rain". We hope we can have many days as today, beautiful weather conditions for sailing.
