Rob Dunkley blazes ahead
You may have been forgiven for thinking that summer was still here this weekend as temperatures down at Hollowell Sailing Club soared into the twenties. Unfortunately it was also accompanied by light winds, which caused many members to simply stay by the club bar!
However with just a few days left to run in both the Saturday and Sunday Autumn Series, it was important to some to still get out onto the water and nab those valuable points.
Day 3 of the Saturday Autumn Series was dominated by Rob Dunkley in his Blaze Plus. Dunkley won both races of the day after fighting off fierce competition from the Solo fleet in the form of Gerry Burnham and Antony Stevens.
Burnham currently leads the Saturday Series, ahead of Stevens so was determined to maintain his overall standing in the table.
In the anti-penultimate day of the Sunday Autumn Series, Dunkley was again on form gaining a first and second in the three races of the day.
The morning race saw veteran Keith Lancaster in his Solo sail home first ahead of Dunkley, followed by duo Mike and Helen Playles in their Wayfarer.
However, after lunch Dunkley fought back to take the second race. The Playles took second and Lancaster came in third.
In the final race of the day, Dunkley didn't sail. Lancaster gained an early lead and held on ahead of Barny Creaser in a Streaker and the Playles to take the race. This further consolidated Lancaster's lead in the overall Sunday Autumn Series table.
Speaking after the Sunday racing, Lancaster commented, "I had some tough competition today, but I'm pleased with how the day went. We could ideally have done with some more wind, but it was a good result."
