IOM UK National Championships at Datchet Water Sailing Club - Preview

A total of 76 skippers are now confirmed for this weekends International One Metre National Championships to be held on the Queen Mother Reservoir, Slough over this coming weekend 23rd – 25th August.

This year's event is being run by the Guildford MYC, as the guests of Datchet Water Sailing Club showing continued growth and expansion to full size venues in the UK for this, the most popular of radio sailing classes worldwide. This premier venue will no doubt bring out the best in the world class fleet with no less than 7 current and former World Champions competing from 7 countries. Current World Champion Robert Walsh (pictured) will be there.

It is expected competition will be close throughout the fleet with the European Championships to be held at Campione on Lake Garda, Italy just over a month away.

Racing will commence from 10am on Saturday morning and continues each day until Monday afternoon.

Competitive radio sailing is a challenging discipline of the sport that is tailor made for spectators, with the racing taking place in near proximity to the shoreline. Competitors are openly available for discussion between races where approximately 20-25 heats can be expected per day. If you are in the area why not come along, visitors will be made very welcome with the usual Datchet Water SC clubhouse facilities available to all.
