18-22 August 2014
The third day of Falmouth Dinghy Week arrived with light winds (OK no wind!).Never to be defeated Race Officer Guy English set off like Canute to defy the elements and conjure wind up from nothing.
The magic worked and the fleet drifted out to start a light wind (southerly) race which felt good, better than drifting anyway. The euphoria soon turned to hysteria as the whole fleet promptly used an inadvertent wind shift to use the wrong windward mark and shorten the lap considerably. Not be defeated Guy shortened the race and finished everybody although in the end the race was not counted!
At this point the Carrick Roads did their own bit of magic, yes it does happen often! The wind went southerly, then no wind, then northerly force 2 or 3. So we got two races in, good winds, great fun and a result for the 3 day mini series.
As far as the mini series goes the results are still being finalised but it looks like the club with the most winners is St Mawes. Other prizes are spread among clubs from across the country, Chelmarsh, Oxford, Chew Valley, Thornbury, Royal Harwich, Castle Cove, Restronguet to name but a few.
Quiz night tonight and then tomorrow is the harbour race, a longer race visiting the marks around the Fal estuary. Should be great fun. Prize giving for the mini series tomorrow as well. Bring it on!
