A great breeze and continuing hot sunshine gave wonderful sailing conditions for the 50th anniversary cup pursuit race and the crews race on Wednedsay morning.
For the first race the boats start in reverse order to their positions in the week and the silver fleet cadets sets off on a course up and down in front of the club with Anna Wootton/ Ben Whitmore and Alex Bell Jones/Lucy Rains getting away cleanly from the pack. These two boats sailed excellently for 45 minutes and were able to see off the pack behind to take first and second with Gus Cooney in a Radial closing quickly from behind in third.
Continuing breeze for the crews race saw 17 cadets come to the start. Cara Bland set the pace up the first beat with Aaron Chadwick in second. A couple of windy reached saw Aaron take the lead and when Cara when for a cooling dip Eden Lovesee Clark took over in second with Cally Terkelsen in third. These places were unchanged at the finish.
The afternoon saw the breeze dying and the race officer struggling to get a good race in for race 7 of the overall series. The Radials saw Sam Yale take the win with Alice Dearlove second and Cam Goodhead third. This leaves Sam in first (17) ahead of Josie (20) and Sarah (25).
The 7th cadet race remains subject to a request for redress after the final positions of the front 3 boats turned inside out up the final beat as the wind initially died completely and then filled in from a new direction. At the finish Lucy Terkelsen just sneaked ahead to take the win, Alex Page was second and Willow Bland an unlucky third. Overall (provisionally) Lucy leads by 2 points from Daisy with Alex and Willow even just 3 more points behind.
The silver fleet cadets had their first points race on Wednesday too. Alex Bell Jones crewed by Lucy Rains came first, Lucie Nunn and Natalie D'Enno were second and Anna Wootton and Ben Whitmore were third.
