Enterprise Nationals at East Lothian Yacht Club - Overall

by Paula Southworth 8 Aug 2010 16:42 BST 1-6 August 2010

51 Enterprises on the water, surrounded by fantastic beaches and panoramic coastline

Congratulations to Nick Craig and James Stewart and our first Lady helm Jane Scutt. Nick has regained his crown as Enterprise National Champion 2010, claiming the Gold Trophy. Jane Scutt, with crew Nick Scutt, was awarded The Mary Arnold Baker for her 1st Lady position which was closely contested by 2nd Ann Jackson and crew Alan Skeens by 1 point!

Last years Championship Winners, Tim Sadler and Richard Sault came 2nd in the Championship claiming the Slim Pickins Transom Trophy. 3rd Christian Birrell and Jonny McGovern, 4th Tony Woods and Charles Bowers claiming the Steve Nicholson Memorial Trophy, 5th Phil Kirk and Sue Beynon and 6th Jonathan Woodward and Clare Houghton.

Race 8 was the final race sailed. Due to shifty and dropping wind conditions Race 9 was timed out. Wind strength was Force 2 -3, Race 8 was started but then had to be canned due to changing wind shifts. The race was restarted and completed in shifty wind, making the Race Officers task a difficult one on the last day of the Championship.

This Championship was concluded with an excellent buffet at ELYC in a specially erected Marquee adjacent to the Club House, prepared by Andrias and the galley team, who had prepared excellent food throughout the week, much appreciated by competitors, families and support team. Nick Craig thanked ELYC Race Secretary Niall Campbell-Morrison, Race Officer and team, Commodore Hugh Marston and Commodore’s wife Phillipa Marston for presenting the prizes and last but by no means least the Bar Team. The efficient Beach master with his cadets had trolleys ready as the competitors came ashore, matching up tallies with sail numbers – welcomed assistance for competitors.

This was an excellent, well organised event which the Enterprise Association would like to recommend to any class looking for a venue. Final thanks must go to our sponsors Noble Marine Insurance, whose continued support is very much appreciated by the Enterprise Association.
