B14 Worlds at Yacht Club de Carnac - Day 1

by Célia Mas-Delfault 12 Jul 2010 21:22 BST 12-16 July 2010

Day one started with grey skies and the chance of rain. Everyone was at the club early full of nerves for the day to come.

The first races got underway in about 8 – 10 knots in a building south westerly. The fleet split to both the right hand side and the left, with the top 5 coming from either side, but it was Guy Bancroft and David Grace who led at the top mark by about 10 boat lengths. The race saw many changes in the fleet positions but it was the Bancroft and Grace combination walking away with the race in style, followed by Tim Harrison and Johnny Radcliff and in 3rd place David Hayes and Richie Bell.

Race 2 started with about 10 – 15 knots with a 20 degree wind shift to the left. The top 5 was again made up of both left and right hand sided boats, with Richie Reynolds and Lissa McMillan clear ahead, However the early gybing boats came out on top with Hayes and Bell leading at the bottom hotly followed by Bancroft and Grace and Nick Craig and MJ. The Race saw many wind shifts with lots of place changing but resulted in a broken wing for Bancroft and Grace who managed to nurse the boat through for a 3rd place. The winners were Hayes and Bell 1st with Scott Cunningham and Jason Walker 2nd.

The fleet is keen for the second day's racing which is expected to bring more rain along with some more wind!
