The first Radial Qualifier of 2010 was held at Stokes Bay SC on the 13/14th March. 122 Radials made the trip including competitors from Ireland and Belgium.

On Saturday the sailors arrived to see a light Northerly over the Solent, however this faded and was replaced by a light Southerly. With a strong tide running the breeze never strengthened sufficiently for racing to take place and racing was abandoned for the day by 1530.

On Sunday the sailors were met by a NW breeze of 12-16 knots which gradually shifted left throughout the day. Wind against tide for the first two races created choppy conditions and a few recalls. The competitors were split into 4 flights and raced each other in a round robin. The first race saw the sailors racing a triangle-sausage-triangle, with wind against tide numerous sailors overstood the port layline on the first beat. The first fleet got away first time with Jon Emmett leading the fleet home from Cameron Douglas with Tom Britz third. The second fleet got away at the second attempt. Ali Young lead around the windward mark and was initially challenged by Elliot Hanson but managed to extend along the 2nd beat to build a comfortable lead. Steve Cockerill stole through on the last reach to take second from Lorenzo Chiavarine.

For the second race the course was shortened to a triangle sausage and with the wind against tide and course skew there were few passing opportunities. In the first fleet Sam Vandormael of Belgium and Andrea Brewster both port tacked the fleet. Vandormael led around the windward mark and continued to extend on the fleet. Cameron Douglas just held off Ross Harvey to take second. In the second fleet James Grant held the lead down the last run but was passed by Emmett at the last leeward mark, but Grant fought back to pass Emmett on the reach to the finish to take the win with Anthony Pieters third.

For the third race of the day the tide was starting to turn and the course had been lengthened. For the first fleet the wind shifted left on the first beat and stayed there, meaning the leaders were those who had started towards the pin. Jack Wetherell took the race win with Emmett fighting his way back through the fleet for 2nd with Max Robinson third. In the second fleet Charlotte Dobson took the win with Alan Rugirok of Ireland second and Douglas third.

Overall Emmett took the qualifier having finished no worse than second with Douglas second and Dobson third.

Overall Results:

1st Jon Emmett
2nd Cameron Douglas (1st Youth)
3rd Charlotte Dobson (1st Lady)
4th James Grant
5th Ali Young
