The 52nd Osprey National Championships are taking place this year at Mount's Bay Sailing Club for the first time since 1994. The event starts on Sunday 26th July and runs over 4 days ending on Wednesday 29th July. There are just short of 40 boats entered so far and the Class Association is hoping to emulate the success of the lasts years' event at this outstanding venue. There are boats enter from all over the UK as well an entry from across the channel.
The 2008 Nationals were held at Poole YC with 52 boats taking part. The increase in numbers is largely thanks to the introduction of the new Hartley Laminates built MK IV, which was introduced in 2006 since when over 30 new boats have been built and there are more on order. The future of the class has been secured and as a result sailors are jointing from other classes.
Mount's Bay is one of the premier Nationals venues in the UK and the club is no stranger to big fleets having hosted the Fireballs in 2008 with a 90 strong fleet. In 2007 they had the GP14s and the year before the RS400.
There has been a long history of Ospreys at Mounts Bay. When Ian Proctor designed the boat in 1950 it did not take long before a fleet was established at the club growing to 40 boats at its peak. Mounts Bay members have won the National Championships on nine occasions and the Osprey remains an established Club class today.
If you have an Osprey and would like to enter please visit the Osprey Nationals web link below for more information or call any of the Association members listed on the website.
