The Blaze Class association is showing a new epoxy Cirrus Blaze on stand C40. The boat is being collected by proud new owner, John Abbott of Oxford SC, at the end of the show and it will soon join the growing Blaze fleet at Farmoor.
The new deck moulding introduced last year is now standard as is the Kevlar reinforced North sail trialed early last year. The show boat is conventionally roped to the latest standard but it should be noted that the class rules allow for stern sheeting as an alternative if wanted.
The association is also assisting in the development of a sister class based on the Blaze in 2009. HALO as it is becoming known is specifically for heavier helms approaching and over 100kg. It carries a larger highly developed sail on a taller carbon mast and although not at the show this time it will be raced alongside the Blaze from early Summer. Early indications is that it will prove usefully faster than the Blaze, itself hardly slow, and that larger helms are itching to give it a go!
The class has also announced that later in 2009 production of the Blaze and derivatives will start in Chile. Tooling has now been built out there and production will be targeted at the local South American market initially. This development is warmly welcomed but does not alter the relationship and supply arrangements with Rondar / Cirrus in Europe.
The Class Association will also have details of second hand boats and information on clubs racing the boat and future events. 'Try a Blaze' days are also planned for the Spring and the stand welcomes all those interested in the Blaze.
