A super day with a good steady breeze greeted an entry of 21 to the Papercourt Laser Open on Sunday 11th May. The event was a qualifier for the Laser Thames Valley Circuit and was sponsored by Guildford Marine.

David Goddard was the star in the first race leading from start to finish over the four laps. Paul Robinson, Rob Hardwick, Tom smith, Kevin Pearson and Fraser Hayden all pressed the leader hard but at the finish the top four were Goddard, Hardwick, Robinson and Smith.

In race two, Pearson led for two laps before Hayden took over and went on to win over four laps. Martyn Walker was secure in third throughout with Tim Granger, Smith, Hardwick and Robinson in a battle for fourth spot which was claimed by Granger.

For race three, Hayden won with ease again over four laps. Robinson, Goddard, Hardwick, Granger and Pearson were always in the hunt but it was Goddard, Robinson and Hardwick who took the honours behind the leader.

In the final race Hayden again led from start to finish pushed hard by Robinson, but it was Hardwick who took second spot from Robinson with Walker and Pearson pushing Goddard who managed fourth place.

For the Radials Sue Michelmore won two of the four races with Peter Hammet and Catherine Whitehill one each with Derek Goodway always in the picture.

Race officer Mike Ball ensured a good day was had by all.
