Solo Open at Chase Sailing Club

by Paul Lester 8 Oct 2006 14:38 BST

23 boats turned up for the 2006 Solo open held at Chase Sailing Club to be greeted with sunshine and a westerly Force 4. Ideal conditions for a great days sailing!

Race 1 got underway with Neil Wilkinson leading at the first mark, after an incident involving Chris Brown and Stuart Hydon, Chris followed Neil around the first mark. Stuart was later found in the wrong and disqualified. Neil then sailed a great race to win from Chris Brown and Colin Newton in third.

After lunch race 2 started in a slightly stronger wind. Paul Lester from Chase lead at the first mark only to be overtaken by Chris Brown and Stuart Hydon down the run. Chris lead the race for 2 laps until he thought that it was the finish and headed for the shore followed by Stuart Hydon. Both Stuart Hydon and Chris Brown were protested for having outside assistance from the OOD. The eventual winner was Graham Flnn followed by Colin Newton and Paul Lester in third.

Race 3 started in slightly less wind and Graham Flynn found extra speed after changing sails. He lead almost from start to finish, followed by Chris Brown and Colin Newton in third.

A great days sailing was had by all. Thanks to everybody who made the event possible!
