25-28 August 2006
...and on the third day the sun shone, and the wind blew, and the PRO saw that it was good. And thus it came to pass that the assembled multitudes rose up and passed the High Speed Dun Loghaire Ferry on either side. A great number of races were required and presently came to be.
The first race was duly won by Oz from the house of Scully, son of Sean and crewed by Nick, son of the King of Fevas, Peter Robson. The clarion having sounded in honour of victory, the 5000 eventually also reached the promised land on the far side of the finishing line. These hordes were led by Nathan and Anna of Ackroyd and followed by Bolly of Broke (not) and Matt the Heath & Cote.
The second race being the third of the series was thus commenced amongst great anticipation and Oz brought the adoring hordes home again for the third time. Yet again the house Ackroyd supported the royal pretender and was assisted by Bolly of Broke in third.
The penultimate contest for the Crown of Ireland was heralded by much wailing and gnashing of teeth as finally the house of Scully was roundly beaten by a shift of epic proportions. With the whiff of victory in their nostrils full advantage was taken by Nathan, son of Roger to postpone the coronation of Oz. Alex the Poyner, Queen of Seas and Holly de t'Ucker attended the victors while Mattie of Dowd
and Connor the Brien ensured proceedings were graced with the green of the Emerald Isles. The Green Standard having been raised was further supported by rivals for the title of Empress of the Oceans, Jenny d'Andreason and Jane of ButtandLair.
The crown of Ireland was still in dispute for the final joust as Oz of Scully could still be thwarted in his quest if he came 5th or worse. Anna, daughter of Michelle nobly led Nathan of Ackroyd to victory. It thus came to be that with a nose kept clean and a result of three, Oz could finally claim the crown. Splitting the two in the final joust was the green of Dowd and Brien.
Thus the epic battle of Dublin Bay was settled by the break of the tie and the house of Scully is set to reign for the year supported by Nathan of Ackroyd. Mattie of Dowd and Connor the Brien took the coveted green shirt and the Jack Craig Memorial Trophy in third place having beaten Alex the Poyner, Queen of Seas in another break of tie.
The magnificent contest was hosted in the courts of the the Royal Irish and much rejoicing was possible with the Goblet of Guiness and the generosity of Windmill Leisure. THe armies in green were nobly assembled by Christopher Craig and have clearly accepted the gauntlett thrown down and to be contested for at Dunmore East in the Battle of Europe '07. The Irish will be there in force and there will be a reckoning. The morrow is already anticipated with eagerness. On this day however the multitudes felt blessed and feasted and departed content.
