It wasn't the alarm call they were expecting, as the team tent that the Looe Sailing Club members were sleeping in, decided to take off in the 55mph gust at 8am on the first day of the Allen and Sailing Chandlery Enterprise Inland Championships.
Many competitors were blown to Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club by Storm Hannah on Friday night, in time to avail themselves of the amply stocked bar, with many hoping the following day might not involve any on the water racing. Meanwhile the traditional BCYC skittle alley and ping pong table saw fiercely fought inter club competitions.
With average winds of 27 mph, with the occasional gusts up to 55 mph, Race Officer Charles Richardson widely decided to cancel the day's sailing, releasing the fleet to return to the bar, or for some, to avail themselves of the local tourist attractions, before enjoying the meal and entertainment at the club this evening.
Sunday's racing will start at 10am prompt in order to complete the championships.
