Seven Nordic Folkboats turned up to the first race of the Royal Lymington Y.C. 2018 Saturday Series. With several boats still waiting to be launched, the entries are expected to increase.
In a rather fluky easterly wind, the Race Officer set a good first beat to a mark aptly sponsored by Folkboats UK!
The paying tactic was to go out into the Solent to get the best of the remaining flood tide. Padfoot made the best of the first leg and arrived first at the windward mark. Following boats found that the tide had now turned, and in the lighter breeze, some struggled to get around this mark.
There followed a period of little or no wind, as boats drifted to the west, until the breeze again filled in from the north east. Spinnakers were launched and the back markers were able to catch up a little, with Crackerjack managing to get ahead of Padfoot.
The Race Officer then wisely shortened the course and at the finish Crackerjack finished just seconds ahead of Padfoot with Wombat in third.
