Magic Marine are the National Solo class title sponsor © Will Loy

With entry open and just over three months until battle commences at Hayling Island Sailing Club, we are able to confirm our sponsors for the 2018 Magic Marine National Solo UK Championship (21-27 July).

Title sponsor Magic Marine are providing competitor caps (Goody Bag) and Early Bird vouchers. Magic Marine are our clothing partner and are also sponsoring our Nation's Cup on Lake Garda and our Class Roots Initiative to reward our club sailors up and down the country. CEO Max Blom has a long and distinguished association with the Solo in Holland and his company's involvement in supporting classes away from the Olympic arena is very much welcome. Magic Marine's UK rep, George Kingsnorth has been instrumental in providing support at club level and here, at HISC for our National title.

Magic Marine stands for performance based sailing gear covering a wide range of disciplines. The brand pushes to be one step ahead recognising the range of conditions that sailors are exposed to; where faster sailing, longer sessions and more extreme weather is experienced. The brand is driven by sailors, for sailors and is pushed by all that the water offers to us, as sailors. Rain, snow, wind or sun; we are 'Driven by the Elements'.

The Allen Performance Challenge

Each day we will award the most improved sailor and there will be overall improver of the week prizes for each category.

Allen are also supplying hull stickers (Goody Bag) for all competitors. You have to display these to be part of the Improver Challenge.

"You can find Allen performance sailing equipment on race winning boats worldwide. Our blocks, fittings and accessories are valued by sailors of all levels, from World Champions and Olympic teams to club sailors."

Selden, conscious of the environment and the need to reduce waste plastics into the Oceans are providing water bottles (BPA free and recyclable) to all competitors (Goody Bag).

"Seldén work closely with the world's top dinghy sailors, carefully analysing their input and feedback to enable us to produce the ultimate dingy rig for every boat. Our innovative design, attention to detail, advanced testing and manufacturing have won Seldén the trust of dinghy sailors all over the world and brought us numerous championship medals.

Our philosophy is to strive for excellence. Techniques such as auto-weld tapering and bead peening of every mast, give Seldén dinghy spars the edge in quality, performance and consistency.

More recently, our investment into a sophisticated carbon filament winding machine and autoclave has enabled us to produce a new generation of carbon masts. The use of computer controlled laminate lay-up of the highest grade pre-preg carbon ensures that Seldén can manufacture the best performing and most consistent spars on the market.

So whether it's a production one design spar or an ultimate Gold medal winning rig you require, if you want to win – go Seldén"

North Sails - T shirts/Caps/Bags, Master Class dinghy park tuning session with Charlie Cumbley Charlie Cumbley has won 6 National titles and 3 Nation's Cups so knows his way around the Solo. The North Sails jockey will help the winner get the best from his Solo in Hayling Bay.

"60 years ago, sailmaker Lowell North started North Sails with an engineer's love of technology and an unwavering faith in the scientific method"

HD Sails - Sailing Apperal/Sail Discount Voucher "HD Sails is owned and managed by Jim Hunt and Andy Davis. Both have a long history of hands on sailmaking and are responsible for many development campaigns that have led to Championship winning designs. Every sail we supply is either computer cut or hand cut at the loft and assembled by Jim or Andy. We appreciate that buying sails is a serious investment. All the sails are made with the same attention to detail and finishing that means you can be assured that you are buying the same quality of product that the champions use."

Milanes Foils - Crafted by Rob Jenks, Sheathed Centreboard 28mm thickness. Someone will win this amazing prize and instantly become unpopular with all the other competitors in the prize draw. Rob Jenks has continued where Phil Milanes left off in crafting stunning foils for the sailor who wants the very best.

"Milanes Foils have been manufacturing high performance centreboards and rudders since 1975, helping dinghy sailors achieve top results in Olympic and National Classes.

Our foils have won Olympic Silver (Finn & FD) and Finn Gold Cup as well as world championships in 420, 505, Contender, Enterprise, Cadet and many other classes. We have also achieved National Championship wins in over 20 other well known dinghy and keelboat classes."

C2 Marine - 2 Carbon Nitesticks
"Using carbon fibre, glass fibre and kevlar fibre we have engineered some of the most robust tillers and extensions. We honed the development of tillers and extensions in the laser class with Ben Ainslie (Olympic, World and European Champion) and other top Laser and Finn sailors."

Winder Boats - Rudder Stock fitted with carbon tiller
Undoubtably, Winder Boats have re-ignited the National Solo since their involvement began in 2000. 18 years down the line and over 1000 builds later, Winder Boats continue to set the benchmark.

"With a choice of two different hull shapes, each built to the same exceptional standard we are continually developing our build technique to ensure our customers get the best. Recent developments include an improved deck/floor moulding which means no join and as such, no weak point or leaking"

Hyde Sails - Branded Sailing Apparel/ Sail Discount Voucher
"Each decade since the 80's has seen Hyde make significant advancements taking opportunities to develop and grow its business while maintaining its core values of performance, quality, service and technology."

What HISC Commodore Nick Peters has to say:
"Hayling Island Sailing Club are immensely proud to be hosting this years National Solo Class National Championships in 2018. This is a very important event for the club, and we really look forward to seeing a big entry this year. The last time we hosted the event in 2013 we had 115 entries, this year we would love to see the numbers top 150 entries. As one of the top Championship venues in UK, and with a long history of Solo sailing at the club, we are more than ready for the challenge and the conditions in Hayling Bay always provides for some excellent competition.

HISC has probably the largest Solo fleet in the country, with over 70 boats in the dinghy park and regular turnouts for club races topping 20 boats. We have seen the popularity of the class in recent years increase significantly, and have waived our joining fee for new members with a Solo in 2018, and we have ensured boat park spaces are available. Of course we are hoping to win the Solo Club Championship again this year after our success at Torquay last year, and judging by the quality of sailors taking part in Club racing I am confident we will see a number of our own boats in the top 20! But the strength of the HISC fleet is the depth and enthusiasm at all levels of experience, and we are all looking forward to the Championship.

Visitors are always made extremely welcome, and with plenty going on at the club after racing and great sandy beaches too, families will also be well entertained. If you are looking for accommodation, we offer on-site cabins, or can advise on nearby alternatives. Although we have no bespoke facilities for motorhomes, a limited number of spaces are available.

HISC has a great record of running World Class events, and we are confident of delivering a great week. Together with my excellent team, I look forward to welcoming you all on 21st July. Entries are online on our website. See you then!"

We will have on water jury and daily video highlights/interviews and the HISC team and members are geared up to provide us with an outstanding championship. We had wall to wall sunshine in 2013, now we need that and the classic Hayling Bay sea breeze and swell!

There is still on site accommodation available and let's top the 116 entries we had on our last visit here.

Why Should I Enter Early?

Entries received before May 1 will receive 2 prize draw tickets. Entries taken before June 1st will receive 1 prize draw ticket.

Why not enter early and double your chance of winning! If you enter after June 1 you will miss out on loads of prizes. Enter online via the HISC website (there is a link on the National Solo website).
