Dragon Force 65 Summer Series at Fleetwood - Overall

by Tony Wilson 10 Oct 2016 08:52 BST 8-9 October 2016

With a light(ish) breeze cutting across from the far right corner of the lake, it was A rigs for all 12 of Fleetwood's Dragon skippers plus our guest from Wigan, Tony McKone, who was weed stricken in his local pond. This was the sixth event through the summer to conclude the series.

The course set was a diagonal start line across the lake's mid-rift taking all marks to starboard, starting with a pump station beat, reach across to HQ control, back down to one of the start buoys and double back up in sausage form to finish back near the bridge.

Two yachts still had their original Dragon red print sails, and I would say they weren't much worse off given the wind strength.

With a 1:30 race start, eight races were eventually completed to give the customary one and a half hour outing, leaving a couple of hours after results were collated for a play with the Df95 that some had brought along.

This was the first club Df95 exercise where 6 guys in total were eager to race each other. I still think there maybe one or two members that have them hidden away.

A similar course to the smaller Df65's was set, but after a while it seemed like anything that goes would do as the wind was constantly changing and petering off all the while.

A good day was had by all with a couple exchanging transmitters for a trial with the bigger Dragon and although with just light wind, it seemed perfect weather for a nice sunny autumn day in October.

The next race day at Fleetwood for DragonForce65 is the start of the winter series, Saturay afternoon 21st October.

The DragonFlight95 on the other hand have the UK Nationals at Lincoln 05/06 November 2016.
