Dragon Force 65 Summer Series at Fleetwood - Round 7

by Tony Wilson 22 Sep 2016 07:08 BST 17-18 September 2016

Wished you were here?

A sneak preview of what looked to have been a great day, enjoyed by no fewer than 22 skippers from around the UK from as far a field as Wales, London and Kent.

Camper vans and visitors had decided to make a weekend of the dual bonanza Dragon event that Fleetwood Model Boat Club had laid on this sunny day.

The smaller DragonForce 65 on Saturday with an evening down the pub for a debrief and quick jar, followed by the bigger brother DragonFlight 95 on Sunday. A few skippers had either of the boats, while many had both complete with the full set of sails.

16 fab races enabled the use of 3 discards.

Results for Saturday:

1 John Tushingham
2 Buzz Coleman
3 Mike Weston

On the customary bottle of wine prize giving for the winners, Race officers Tim and Chris had decided on a novel and fair way on presentation. All the 22 candidates names were put into a hat (Tea Pot) for prize draw, just for a change.

Mike Weston drew out his own number and by double chance John Tushingham also drew out his own number. Sometimes you just can't beat the system.

Sunday continued the fun with 14 skippers entering the Df95 just for fun event. (Entitled:Racing for the hell of it.)

A drop in wind for the day enabled just 14 races as there was a slight lull midway as the change of tide had created a big wind shift.

Again nearly the same winners.

Results for Sunday:

1 John Tushingham
2 Buzz Coleman
3 Tim Long
