Zhik 2016 66th Cadet National Championship at the WPNSA - Day 2

by Simon Butterworth 25 Aug 2016 08:25 BST 22-26 August 2016

The second day of the Zhik 2016 Cadet National Championship had everything - brilliant sunshine, 45 degree wind shifts, no wind, hailstones, thunder and lightening - not easy for any sailor or the PRO.

The fleet launched at 10.15, sailing out into Weymouth Harbour, then straight back to WPNSA when the wind quickly disappeared. After the sailors had been ashore for around fifteen minutes, notice was given that they would shortly head back again to the race course. Three races were finally completed in very shifty conditions with Jamie Harris and Antonia Wilkinson securing three straight bullets and now lead the championship with only 9 points after 7 races.

Ellie Wootton and her crew, Amelia Mayhew, also showed consistent top results in Race 5 and 6 with second place and a seventh in the last race of the day moving them up to second overall. Overnight leaders after Day One, Megan Ferguson and Yasmin Sfaxi drop down to third but still very much in contention just one point behind silver.

Anna Wootton and Imogen Mayhew are still maintaining their lead in the Silver fleet but are closely followed by Katie White and Rhona Enkel.
