Noble Marine Comet Trio Nationals at Exe Sailing Club - Day 1

by Bob Horlock 12 Aug 2016 21:22 BST 12-14 August 2016

The Comet Trio Nationals, sponsored by Noble Marine started in bright sunny conditions at Exe SC today. The 19 entries launched in a gentle F2 NW gradient and sailed out to sea only to be met with a glassy sea state as the sea breeze fought for supremacy.

Fortunately the sea breeze won and the first race started on time in a steady F2-3 southerly. With very light winds forecast for Sunday, race officer Tim Graham changed the schedule to bring forward one race so the fleet sailed 3 triangle, sausage, triangle courses with much changing of places as first one side of the beat paid and then the other.

5 times Nationals Champions, Andrew and Caroline McAusland from Exe SC won all 3 races. Sam and Chris Mayne from Hawley SC sailed beautifully to score 2, 2, 4 to finish in second place overall with Guy Farrant and Graham Sykes also from Exe SC in third place with a 4, 3, 3.

So with more light winds forecast for tomorrow, can anyone challenge the McAuslands to stop them claiming the Trophy for the 6th time?
