Zhik UK 29er National Championship at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Preview

by Paul Hammett 5 Aug 2016 09:14 BST 6-12 August 2016

Royal Torbay Yacht Club looks forward to hosting 75 29ers for the 2016 Zhik UK 29er National & Open Championships over the week 6th to 12th August 2016.

This will be the second largest GBR entry ever at a UK Nationals surpassing the 71 GBR boats last year, with only the 90 GBR boats at HISC in 2013 larger. The 150+ boat entry in 2015 was swelled by overseas entries ahead of the U.K. hosted Worlds.

The 29er Class has recently signed a new 3 year sponsorship deal with Zhik to sponsor the UK 29er Nationals and the Class looks forward to the support of Zhik in the years ahead.

With some strong GBR showings in the Eurocup series and the recent European and World Championships it looks set to be a fiercely fought battle for honours across all categories.

The racing starts on Sunday afternoon under the watchful eye of Race Office Stuart Childerley with 10 qualifying races scheduled ahead of a split to Gold/Silver for the second half of the week. There is a busy social programme that culminates in a Black Tie dinner at the Imperial Hotel for the prizegiving dinner - where Zhik goodies will be awarded for the various prize winners.

You can keep up with the racing on the 29er website and the twitter feed @29erracing.
