Optimist Open at Hollowell this Saturday

by Paula Irish 30 Jun 2016 06:56 BST 2 July 2016

The third round of the 2016 Midland Optimist Traveller Series will be hosted by Hollowell Sailing Club in Northamptonshire this Saturday, July 2nd.

A warm welcome is waiting for sailors from across the region and beyond, with registration from 8:00 to 9:30, a briefing at 10:00 and first race signal at 10:30.

The schedule is for four races – two in the morning and two in the afternoon - with one discard kicking in after three or more races have been run.

Competitors can enter on the day. The entry fee is £15 and the friendly galley will be offering a bacon roll for breakfast at just £1 and lunch for £3.

There will be a combined main and regatta fleet start, with on-the-water support and separate scoring for regatta sailors.

George Eames Matthews is so far leading the Midland Optimist Traveller Series after the two events held so far at Banbury and Staunton Harold, with Millie Irish second overall and Jacob Felton third. With strong competition throughout the fleet it's still all to play for!

The following week is the Midland Area Championships at Draycote Water SC on July 9th; entry for this can be made at www.kbsuk.com/optimist/iocamidlands/index.asp?EventID=17
