Musto Skiffs at the Largo Bay Sailing Club Regatta

by Donald M Aitken 27 Jun 2016 14:39 BST 25-26 June 2016

The Musto Performance Skiff class were welcomed to Largo Bay Sailing Club as part of our annual Regatta over the weekend.

This was to be a forerunner to the class National Championships which are taking place at LBSC from the 11-14th August 2016.

Although some of the fleet have visited the venue before it did allow them the opportunity to view the venue in a different light with the up and coming championships looming.

The weather gods were certainly shining over Largo Bay this weekend and provided us with a fantastic range of wind conditions which provided the fleet a strong test over the two days. Saturday provided breezes which were light and shifty giving the Race Officer some difficult decisions to make to provide the best courses under the conditions. Sunday was quite a different day with the fleet presented with a steady South Westerly gusting up to 18 knots at times.

These were champagne sailing conditions at their best and were combined with sunshine, warm temperatures and a friendly pod of dolphins to top it off.

The boys from south of the border from Derwent Reservoir SC and Ullswater SC were to dominate over the weekend with Ian Trotter putting in a great set of results across all the conditions to take first place followed closely behind by Stuart Keegon and Jono Shelly completing the podium positions.

LBSC is looking forward to welcoming the whole of the UK fleet back in August and with pre-entries already at 45 it all augers well for a fantastic 4 days of racing.
